Hillary Conquers Everest
Item Name: Hillary Conquers Everest
Item Number: art2_315
Artist: James Lumbers
Size: 34 x 28"
Sir Edmund Hillary and Mount Everest are depicted in this limited edition print, numbered 480 of 1953 - 1953 were printed to reflect the year that Everest was conquered by Hillary. In order to get the perfect color and texture in Hillary's face, it took as many as 100 coats of paint in some places. James Lumbers wanted to relate him to the mountains - his strength reflected in his character with a rugged sweater; a strong face to match the craggy mountains. A great piece of artwork signed by both the artist and Hillary himself. Framed in a 1-1/2" wide cherry frame with a pale silver-blue mat. Born in Toronto, James Lumbers' path was charted at an early age. By the late 70's, James was recognized as one of Canada's foremost realist painters. His work is familiar to the North American public through many solo and group exhibitions, including shows at the Royal Ontario Museum, the McMichael Canadian Art Gallery and the Kennedy Galleries of NY.
