Summer Sizzler Membership Drive

WPBS: Summer Sizzler

June 1st - June 9th 2019

We're celebrating the return of summer and kicking the month off with a membership drive full of performance and drama marathons. This month also features several new local programs produced by WPBS.

Saturday, June 1 look for an encore of Victor Hugo's masterpiece six-part adaptation of Les Misérables; stacked from 11 am to 7 pm. We'll finish the evening with Les Misérables in Concert: The 25th Anniversary at 7 pm; performed and filmed at The O2 in North Greenwich, London, England in 2010. It marked the anniversary of the West End production.

The drama marathon begins with an encore of Masterpiece Mystery! Grantchester season 1. We're presenting all six-episodes, back-to-back, Sunday, June 2 from 12 pm to 6 pm.  We'll continue the following Sunday, June 9 from 12 to 6 with all six-episodes from season 2.  We continue with episodes 1 and 2 from season 3 at 7 pm Sunday, June 16 and June 23; episode 5 at 8 pm Sunday, June 30; episode 6 Sunday, July 7 at 8 pm' episode 7 Sunday, July 14 at 8 pm leading into the season 4 premiere at 9 pm.

Catch up with a season 5 marathon of Endeavour; episodes 1 – 3 Sunday, June 2 beginning at 6 pm and episodes 4 – 6 Sunday, June 9 beginning at 6 pm. Shaun Evans returns for the sixth season of the popular prequel to the beloved Inspector Morse series, Sunday, June 16 at 9 pm.

In keeping with the theme, Rick Steves' fans rejoice for there is a week-long marathon for you as well. Tune-in Monday, June 3 – Wednesday, June 5 at 3:30 pm; Thursday, June 6 at 3 pm; and Friday, June 7 at 4 pm.

What membership drive would be complete without the opportunity to introduce our two-nation community to new musical acts? Look for Assia - A Music Extravaganza Live in Concert Monday, June 3 at 7:30 pm. Assia started with nothing but a violin and rose from the ashes of her childhood home in the war-torn country of Ukraine to be a world-class musician. A brilliant tapestry with a full orchestra, background dancers, singers and PBS music sensation, Ethan Bortnick. Pledge for tickets to see Assia at the Westcott Theater Tuesday, October 8. We're also introducing you to Tommy Emmanuel: A Music Gone Public Special Tuesday, June 4 at 9 pm. Tommy is the world's best acoustic guitarist (according to Guitar Player magazine, Eric Clapton, Les Paul, Steve Vai, and thousands of public television fans) brings "The Best of Tommy on public television" curated from various performances around the country. Pledge for tickets to see Tommy Emmanuel at the Center for the Arts in Homer, NY Tuesday, July 16 at 8 pm.

WPBS will be 'live' in-studio Wednesday, June 5 beginning at 7:30 pm for a one-hour special of Fishing Behind the Lines with host Don Meissner.  The night will conclude with Waylon Jennings - Lost Outlaw Performance at 9:30 pm and Willie Nelson, Merle Haggard, and Ray Price returning in an encore broadcast of Last of the Breed at 10 pm.
