Vizcaya was built as the winter residence of American industrialist James Deering.  Completed in 1916, Vizcaya was built to appear to be a 16th century Italian estate that had stood for 400 years.  The house has 34 rooms furnished with 15th through19th century antique furnishings and art.  The house overlooks Biscayne Bay in Miami.

The formal Italian gardens combine the elements of 16th and 17th century Italian hill gardens with those of 17th century French Gardens.  Tours available; gift shop and cafe on the premises.

Dignitaries such as President Reagan, Pope John Paul II, and Queen Elizabeth of England have all visited Vizcaya.   In 1994, the historic Summit of the Americas was held at Vizcaya with President Clinton and 34 leaders of the Western Hemisphere.

Of course, host Miranda Esmonde-White added her name to that list of "Dignitaries" when we taped three shows in Vizcaya's gardens in January 2002.
