Program descriptions: Series One  |  Series Two

The New Fly Fisher is a half-hour educational television series for nature lovers and fly fishers of all ages.  Many consider fly-fishing as preventative maintenance for your body and soul. The New Fly Fisher promotes the understanding of fly-fishing and the awareness of its interconnections with nature. Each week, this how-to series will help viewers to discover both the considerable rewards associated with fly-fishing and spending quality time in the great outdoors.

Taped throughout Canada and the United States, this is not your typical weekend morning fishing show. Rather, it is an educationally focused outdoors series that endeavours to bring viewers detailed information about eco-systems, outdoor destinations, entomology, fly-fishing techniques and equipment plus discuss important conservation issues. Detailed graphics & animations are combined with stunning below and above water videography to help clearly explain specific points to viewers. The net result is a series that captivates viewers with entertaining themes juxtaposed with compelling information about nature and conservation. The New Fly Fisher will educate, inform and entertain everyone that loves the outdoors.

Host Colin McKeown has loved fishing since he was five years old. A little over ten years ago he began to fly-fish and quickly learned that it was often difficult to find good information about this sport. Frustrated with the poor quality television programming available to help new fly fishers, Colin decided to create The New Fly Fisher. This educational series has been airing in Canada for three years on the Outdoor Life Network and it was always Colin’s desire to bring an instructive series of this calibre to Public Television. Colin’s production company produces educational television for networks such as the Discovery and CBC. He has been married for 13 years and is the proud father of two children.
