The New Fly Fisher fishing show with Host, Colin McKeown, and the Federation of Fly Fishers have joined forces to co-produce an educational television series for Public Television. This exciting 26-week series is presented by WPBS-TV, Watertown, New York. Like other top-rated PBS instructional series such as This Old House and The New Yankee Workshop, The New Fly Fisher will be dedicated to helping people learn more about fly fishing and the benefits fly fishers bring to conserving and restoring sport fisheries on both sides of the border.
“Taped throughout the United States and Canada, this series will help novice and veteran fly fishers improve their skills,” said Colin McKeown, producer of The New Fly Fisher. By using visually stunning videography combined with detailed graphics, animations and revealing underwater clips, shows will be highly informative and entertaining. Each episode features renowned fly fishers, authors, biologists and top regional guides who assist viewers in gaining a better understanding of aquatic ecology and various strategies and tactics to help them gain greater enjoyment from fly fishing.
“The mandate of the Federation of Fly Fishers is to EDUCATE, TRAIN, and INSPIRE new generations of fly fishers,” said FFF Executive Director Jim Rainey. “Partnering with The New Fly Fisher is a tremendous opportunity for FFF to advance our goal of getting more anglers to make a lifetime commitment to fly fishing, thereby creating legions of new conservation-minded stewards for our sport fisheries.” And because the show will include segments on saltwater fly fishing off the Texas coast, small mouth and largemouth bass fishing in warm water rivers and lakes, and rainbow trout fishing on the Bow River, it will provide a perfect complement to the FFF motto, All Fish, All Waters. “Episodes will illustrate basic and advanced fly fishing methodologies for coldwater, warm water, and saltwater game fish,” said Gary Grant, FFF President. “Fly fishing is not just for trout.”
The New Fly Fisher currently appears in Canada on the Outdoor Life Network and CBC. It is broadcast on over 70 Public Television stations in the United States and is coming soon to The Sportsman Channel. Total household viewership of The New Fly Fisher is estimated at over 44 million households and growing. There are 26 episodes produced for each season and with repeats that will represent a 52-week-a-year market penetration on the nation’s largest educational network plus outdoor cable and satellite channels. The New Fly Fisher represents tremendous advertising and promotion opportunities for sponsors and underwriters.
