| Maple Lawn Gardens,
Ottawa: The elegant resicence and its walled garden are a rare and
well-preserved example of a country estate in early 19th century Canada. Now a
restaurant, the home was built from 1831 to 1834 for William Thomson, a prosperous farmer.
Its walled garden of nearly an acre reflects the walled gardens common in
Britain. |

| MacKenzie King Estate: William
Lyon MacKenzie King was Prime Minister from 1923-1950 and was Canada's longest-serving
Prime Minister. While at "Moorside," as the house and property are known,
he indulged is passion for "manipulating his environment." He collected
ruins from Canada and abroad which add to the property's charm. Moorside now houses
a tea-room and restaurant open for lunch. Located in the Gatineau Park in Quebec,
north of Ottawa. |
