WPBS-TV has extended their partnership with the Antique Boat Museum in Clayton, NY to bring a year-long outreach campaign to our local community entitled History at the Helm.  A grant from the National Center for Outreach will allow us to extend the newly-produced documentary about the Antique Boat Museum, The Antique Boat Museum: Preserving North America’s Boating Heritage, into the community more visibly.

This grant will allow the partners to offer various film screenings of the local documentary at the Antique Boat Museum.  There are several film screenings in conjunction with the Harbor Inn Restaurant in Clayton, NY planned for the 2006-2007 season.

For educators, WPBS-TV will produce a Teachers Guide that will accompany the local documentary.  This Guide, along with the DVD of the video, will be distributed to all local schools and libraries in 2007.  The video will also be digitized and uploaded to an online digital library for teachers across NYS to access. Two teacher workshops will be held to demonstrate how local resources can be used in classrooms to continue to preserve local history.  A new website will be developed to contain these components and much more. All activities are under the umbrella of, History at the Helm.

WPBS-TV is also airing a series entitled Cruising America’s Waterways Tuesday nights at 7:30pm on WPBS-TV until October 2006. Another three-part series entitled Sailing with Confidence will be airing this September.  Tune into WPBS-TV History at the Helm airings and activities.

WPBS-TV and the Antique Boat Museum are proud to present this local history outreach project with the intention that the resources created will be longstanding and useful to our educators and community at-large.
